The physics behind a good image, what EASy POCUS is and the bedside problem it solves, and the 6 core views — subcostal cardiac and IVC plus the lung / pleural windows — how to obtain each one reliably.
Assess the ventricles: RV & LV
Read right and left ventricular size and function on the subcostal view — the pump assessment every phenotype is built on.
Assess volume status
Read the IVC and volume state — the gate that opens the phenotyping pathway and keeps you from chasing isolated findings.
Phenotype: clusters & patterns
Combine heart + IVC + lungs into a phenotype across the 4 clusters. This is where ultrasound findings become a clinical decision.
Master cardiac phenotyping — the hard part
The heart is the hardest read, and the skill that makes everything else click. Work the four drills in order — get the image, judge whether it is good enough to read, name the phenotype, then decide on it in full scenarios. Drill the cardiac phenotypes until the pattern is reflex; once it is, integrating IVC and lung is easy.

Go hands-on: in-person workshops
The modules build your knowledge; the workshop builds your hands. Our in-person courses take you from recognizing phenotypes to performing and acting on them under faculty guidance.
Image acquisition on live models
Scan real, healthy live models with faculty at your side until each of the 6 EASy views is reliable in your hands.
Rapid-fire interpretation & management
Work through high-volume rapid-fire cases: see the pattern, call the cluster, commit to the next physiologically appropriate action — out loud, at speed.
Simulation: the group EASy ALS approach
High-fidelity simulation to learn the coordinated, team-based EASy ALS approach to cardiac arrest and peri-arrest resuscitation.
Stage 3
At the bedside in your institution
Take EASy to your own patients. EASy MAP and EASy ALS are the foundational protocols — the rest apply the same framework to specific settings. Pick the protocol that matches your clinical question, scan your real scenarios, and upload them for expert review.

Your competency pathway
Competency is earned, not just attended. Certification has two components — complete both to earn your trainee certificate.
One day to acquire. Supervised practice to phenotype and act.
Component 1
Learn & drill online
- Complete the online modules (physics, 6 views, RV/LV, volume, phenotyping).
- Master the acquisition drill and the image-quality drill — every card held at a spaced interval.
- Master the cluster drill on real expert-labeled loops — 90% of the deck held at a week's interval. Expect about a month of short daily sittings. The phenotype decks within each cluster are optional depth.
Self-paced and verified automatically — finish this before your workshop so the hands-on day goes into your hands. Optional but recommended: work through the clinical scenarios to tie the drills together.
Component 2
Prove it at the bedside
- Attend a live, in-person workshop — your course cohort is tracked and followed up by its faculty.
- Upload 30 subcostal 4-chamber exams from your own patients that an expert verifies as adequate quality or better.
- Submit 3 clinical cases — the subcostal 4-chamber view read with the subcostal short-axis, IVC, lung and pleural views, written up and approved by a reviewer. The subcostal 4-chamber clip in each approved case counts toward the 30.
Reviewed by EASy faculty — this is where competence is demonstrated on real patients.
Course acquisition target: complete all six adequate views in under three minutes. Independent competence still requires supervised practice, 30 expert-verified subcostal 4-chamber examinations and 3 reviewed clinical cases.

The two examination counts measure different things. The 30 for the EASy competency certificate are expert-verified at adequate quality or better — a standard someone else confirms. The 50 for instructor candidacy are logged examinations: breadth of experience before you teach, not a second verification bar.
Completing the EASy pathway documents training within this program. It does not replace institutional credentialing, privileging, scope-of-practice requirements, or specialty-board certification.

Once you hold the EASy competency certificate, the pathway continues: instructor, institutional mentor, and regional training center director.
